Meeting Highlights:

1. 1998 Conference Post Mortem

What went well, opportunities for improvement and additions to the manual were
identified in attachment 4. A conference marketing plan was also developed
(attachment 6).

2. 1999 Conference Plans

Tim Keyes reviewed the 1999 conference, including a short course on 6 sigma on the
day prior to the conference. The discussion emphasized student participation, local
transportation to and from the GE location, and improved marketing.

  1. 2000 Conference Plans

Rita Lai reviewed the 2000 Conference. The current plan is to hold the conference
May 24-26, 2000 (Wednesday - Friday). A short course might be included on
Tuesday. Because the conference is joint with the SRC, the number of participants
could exceed 150. The hotel should be arranged shortly because of the large number
of participants. Also parallel sessions were discussed because of the need for
academics to give papers. The conference registration fee must be kept very low
because of the need to attract academics.

  1. 2001 Conference Plans

The 2001 conference discussion focused on the conference host. The first choice for

the host was Sematech and Texas Instruments. Veronica will make initial contacts to
see if they are interested. The second choice was NASA but no one had any contacts
at NASA. NASA will remain on the list for a future conference sponsor. IBM was
also identified as a potential future conference sponsor.
