Chair ö Geoff Vining - December issue of the newsletter did not get out in a timely manner. SPES and Q&P officers had a list of action items to address the timeliness of the newsletter.Ê

 

Chair Elect ö Eric Lagergren ö Review of Strategy meeting

 

Past-Chair ö Tom Boardman ö Please go to the web page and update the job description with Tom. Add to organization manual the standing time of board meetings for Program Chairs.

 

Program Chair and Chair Elect- Jose Rameriz/Cheryl Jennings ö 2000Ê sessions:Ê 8 total, 2 invited, 3 contributed, 3 special topic.Ê Total of 3 invited sessions for Q&P for 2001.Ê Cheryl would like the email list to scout for chairs for contributed session.

 

Publications ö Gwen Stimely ö Would like to move to electronic publication.Ê ASA would like to have all sections doing the same thing.Ê Would like to make a motion to move to electronic.Ê 2000 to add papers as collected to our website, 2001 to go to electronic only.Ê Currently a loss of $800 on proceedings.Ê Suggested to add a counter to website to check hits versus number of proceedings Q&P has historically sold.Ê

 

Research Conference Chair ö Sematech and AMD and UT Austin areÊ sponsoring the 2001 event scheduled for May 24-26th, Next year (2002) in Honeywell in Morristown NJ.Ê 2000 conference was in Seattle and had an excess of $8000 to be split with IMS and SPES.

 

Continuing Education Steve Zayac -Ê 40 participants in DOE, 20 with accelerated life testing for the 2000 JSM meetings.Ê Tim Robinson, University of Wyoming would like to get involved in this venture.

 

Mary Natrella Fund ö Veronica Czitron ö 15 people form 5 countries, selected 5, 1 declined, 2 x $1000 prizes and 2 conference scholarships plus housing.Ê Maryâs husband and children attended the event at the QPRC.Ê 3 speakers

 

Webmaster ö Ramon Leon ö

 

Committee to Nominate Fellows ö Bill Woodall ö Important for our section to be naming fellows.

 

Rick Carlson ö hosting a round table on Statistician as Baldridge Examiners.Ê Baldridge process to begin this fall for new examiners.Ê Rick will give a list of Baldridge conferences to Ramon for posting on the Website.

 

New Business

 

Publications - Motion by Gwen ö Q&P will not have paper proceedings in 2001.Ê Cheryl Jennings seconded.Ê Approved by voice acclamation.

 

QPRC ö Motion by Rob Easterling and Jeff Hooper.Ê The QPRC uses financial arrangements that are different from any other ASA sponsored event.Ê Conference history:Ê approx 16 years old, beginning as the Mohawk conference, financed by Bell Labs.Ê Stu Hunter led this conference for several years.Ê Jeff Hooper currently runs the conference.Ê Publicity is sited as one of successful elements of this conference.Ê

 

ASA views the QPRC as a separate entity, financially from ASA.Ê

 

Benchmark other conferences associated with ASA.Ê Develop a report of these findings.Ê

Define an ad hoc committee ö Geoff, Eric, Fred and Leroy.Ê Geoff to Chair this committee.Ê Cheryl Jennings to volunteer.Ê Conference call organized by Geoff by the end of the month.

Requests for Funds

 

Randy Tobias, incoming chair of the Gordon Conference.Ê Soliciting the group for funds for support of the 2001 conference.Ê Q&P to sponsor between 1 and 2 speakers expenses at $1500 per speaker.Ê

 

Veronica would like to set up a video of Peter John (UT Austin) for the distinguished statistician series. Lynn Hare spent $3000 to do this for Stu Hunter.Ê Action ö Would like to develop a procedure for identifying the people to honor and to distribute funds.Ê

 

Request for Undergrad Data ö Recommendation to continue funding of $200.

 

 

Council of sections Report ö Lonnie Vance

 

  1. To go to electronic proceedings.Ê All of a yearâs proceedings on a CD for approx $20.Ê It currently about $300 for all proceedings.Ê

 

  1. Are there any needs from the sections needed with any conferences and workshops (new).

 

  1. Proposal for the ASA website to have an interactive statistical demonstration that would be changed periodically.Ê Recommend not to spend time on.

 

  1. Coordinate appeals to donors through ASA central office if more than $1000.

 

  1. Info booth at JSM is not used.
