Newsletter News for ENVR

The Section on Statistics and the Environment initiated an annual membernewsletter in 1998. The newsletter typically mails each summer andcontains overview articles on statistical issues arising in a variety ofenvironmental applications ranging from fisheries to human healtheffects of air pollution. Past issues also contain notices of upcomingmeetings, briefs from recent specialty meetings, overviews of trainingprograms in environmental statistics, book reviews, and a sectionentitled "Notes from the Field". The "Notes from the Field" sectioncontains brief summaries of work in progress, and opens discussionsranging from the particular application described to general issuesregarding statistical analysis to environmental issues. Ron McRoberts (rmcroberts@fs.fed.us) of the USDA-Forest Service in St.Paul, MN, will assume the editorial responsibilities for the ENVRNewsletter beginning in January 2002, taking over from founding editorLance Waller (lwaller@sph.emory.edu) of Emory University. Contributionsfor the 2002 issue of the newsletter are welcome (it's never too earlyto submit!) and should be sent to Ron. Suggestions for general topicareas and/or contributors, letters, meeting notices, meeting reports,book/software reviews and "Notes from the Field" are also encouraged.
