EDUCATION

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

  • Summer Undergraduate Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (SUMSRI) is a program conducted under the guidance of Miami University's Department of Mathematics and Statistics. They seek talented undergraduate students in the mathematical sciences who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees. They are especially interested in, but not limited to, African Americans and other underrepresented minorities and women.
  • NISS Postdoctoral Fellowships: The National Institute of Statistical Sciences is accepting applications from statistical and other scientists for postdoctoral positions as Junior Fellows.
  • The Harvard School of Public Health Summer Program in Quantitative Sciences: A 4-week summer program for minority or low-income students interested in pursuing graduate studies in public health.

  • Gates Millennium Scholars Program: Undergraduate and graduate scholarships for African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific American or Hispanic citizens/permanent residents of the United States. Graduates scholarships for 2000-2001 are directed to students in mathematics, science (including life sciences, physical sciences and computer science), engineering, education or library science.

  • NSF Division of Graduate Education: Read about the NSF Graduate Research Fellowships, NSF-NATO Postdoctoral Fellowships, and other fellowships, grants and awards.

  • NSF Division of Undergraduate Education: The NSF has a number of programs that encompass engineering and mathematics.

  • AT&T Fellowships and Summer Research Programs: The Undergraduate Research Program is open to women and minority students who are juniors and nongraduating seniors in science and engineering fields. The AT&T Labs Fellowships offer support (fellowship and summer employment) to women and underrepresented minority graduate students in scientific fields of importance to AT&T.
  • Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship Program : Cooperative Research Fellowships are designed to identify and develop scientific and engineering research ability among under-represented minority groups.
  • Ford Foundation Fellowships for Minorities: The Fellowship Programs Unit administers predoctoral, dissertation, postdoctoral, and other fellowship programs for advanced study in research-based disciplines. The fellowships include the Ford Foundation Predoctoral, Dissertation, and Postdoctoral Fellowships for Minorities, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowships in Biological Sciences, the NASA Administrator's Fellowship Program, and the U.S. Department of Education OERI Visiting Scholar's Program.
  • Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program: This fellowship program of the National Academies is designed to engage graduate science, engineering, medical, veterinary, business, and law students in the analysis that informs the creation of science and technology policy and to familiarize them with the interactions of science, technology, and government. As a result, students develop essential skills different from those attained in academia and make the transition from being a graduate student to a professional.
  • Student and Research Opportunities at the U.S. Census Bureau. The Census Bureau offers student internships and and other summer programs.
